admin, Travis, shares a terrific interview with Valery
Ortiz (Madison).
What have you been doing since the show?
Wow! I've done several guest stars which have all mostly
aired! I host a show called "On the Up!" on
SiTV.
I also traveled to Washington DC to premiere season
TWO of "Diary of a Single Mom" which is now
on www.pic.tv and I got engaged in Puerto Rico!
What are you doing now?
Well I'm still traveling back to LA from the holidays
in Florida! We got stuck in Dallas a night and I'm sitting
at the airport waiting for my flight and answering all
your questions! But we'll soon start filming season
3 of "Diary of a Single Mom"! And if you haven’t
already PLEASE vote for us http://www.indiesoapawards.com/voting.html
as we were nominated for TEN awards at the first annual
Indie Soap Awards! I'll also be back on the audition
grind! :D
Why was SON so special? What was it that made
you want to be a part of it?
SON had a message. It was inspirational and it was
different. There wasn't a show like it! But to be completely
honest with you, I was naive at the impact we were going
to make. I knew it was a special show. I didn’t
know it would change as many lives as it did.
I also loved how different I was from my Madison. ;)
Are you in touch with your cast mates from
SON? If so, who?
Yes! I had Gabby, her husband, and her puppy Iggy at
my house a couple months ago! I've been in a 'text'
communication with Mandy, Matt and Aasha! I also keep
in touch with Austen via Facebook.
Did you want to do a fourth season?
Yes!!!!
If there was a fourth season, what do you think
would have taken place during it?
I have no idea! There were so many possibilities but
it would’ve been neat to follow the characters
into college/the real world!
If there’s ever a movie, would you be
interested in being in it?
Of course! Sign me up! Getting a chance to work with
the SON cast again would be amazing.
As you may remember from reading my interview
with Tom, when I asked him if there was a possibility
for spinoffs, he mentioned talking with you about a
spinoff involving Madison’s dancing career. What
do you remember about that, and were you excited about
that possibility?
Ha ha!! Of course I remember that! That's one of the
reasons my character was M.I.A. for a bit in season
3. We were working on stuff for that show. But not too
long after that the S.A.G. union strike rumors started
and we put it on hold. If you talk to Mr. Tom Lynch
tell him, 'let's do this'! Haha
If you could have changed one thing about the
show, what would it have been?
I wouldn't have CHANGED anything but it would’ve
been fun to see more flashbacks of when Madison and
Ashley use to be friends!
If you could have played another character,
which would you have liked to have played?
Hmmm I’ll say Ashley! She was still really different
from me and l liked her character arch.
What was your favorite season of the show and
why? – AshFan92
Season 2! At that point we knew what the show really
became and knowing we were making a difference made
the experience that much more amazing. I also liked
where my character started going.
What do you miss about South of Nowhere? –
BrandonJohnLee – Twitter
Hmm, great question. I really miss going to work every
day and feeling like I had a purpose. :)
How are you alike and different from Madison?
– britty555
Alike- We're both passionate, I like to dance/perform,
I'm ambitious like her, and I love hard
Different- I’m open minded, I'm more forgiving,
I don't love cheerleading as much as she does, I'm not
boy crazy, I'm very close to my family/friends
Was it hard to play a character that was not
liked by everyone? – Jacky
Not at all! It was fun! I got to step out of my own
comfort zone. If some viewers didn't like Madison then
I guess I did my job, right? Truth be told, anytime
fans saw me in person, they treated me great! No one
that I know of hated me for the character I played so
it wasn't hard at all.
If there was one thing about the character
Madison that you could use in your everyday life, what
would it be, and why? - SoNFantic
Hmm great question! Probably her fearlessness. Although
I know she wasn't ALWAYS without fear, she did have
an essence about her that I really respected. She new
what she wanted and nobody could tell her it wasn’t
going to happen.
What is your favorite memory from the show?
– SpencerChristian
One of my favorite memories was filming the prom episode!
It was our last day of filming and it was an ALL night
shoot! We were so delirious and laughed SO much! I had
a lot of fun that night.
If you could work with anyone in Hollywood
who would it be and why? - InSonITrust
Jennifer Lopez! I love her and she's a huge inspiration
to me. :)
What was your favorite moment/episode of South?
- Mrs_MusgraveTNG
Favorite episode/moment was the slow motion montage
when Mrs. Carlin catches Ashley in Spencer’s room.
The Shakespeare in the background was amazing and the
intensity of the entire scene was dead on. The girls
did a great job!
If you were the writer, what would you have
changed in the storyline? - SGA_A – Twitter
Hmm, nothing! I think the fans would agree that our
writers were pretty amazing and on top of that, Gabby
and Mandy (as well as the rest of the cast) really brought
the characters to life. I always believed them.
Do you feel like you were a part of something
that truly helped young women, or people struggling
with their sexual orientation in general, to become
less scared to live their lives how they wanted too?
If so, how do you think you contributed to this, being
that your character was so against homosexuality? -
loveeeely123
I KNOW I was a part of something that helped our youth
as well as adults! My best friend (and maid of honor
must I add) didn't have The N channel. I had the entire
season on DVD, so the day she watched season one, she
told me she was gay. I was so proud of SON for that.
Making everyone, despite their sexual orientation, feel
comfortable being themselves.
I think Madison was necessary to the show. I hope
that people saw my character and thought, "wow,
how could anyone be so judgmental, so close-minded?"...I
hope I helped in opening peoples eyes that putting labels
on people and hate, is a waste to say the least.
There's always "a bad guy" and I had fun
exploring that side of myself.
Do you have any final words for the fans?
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Honestly, what else
can I say? You made the show. You keep our message alive
and you make our work worth it. :)

Myatt for her assistance with this interview.
